Overview

SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small-molecule pan-agonist of estrogen-related receptors (ERRα, ERRβ, and ERRγ), designed to mimic the transcriptional effects of endurance exercise by activating the PGC-1α pathway in skeletal muscle and metabolic tissues. For laboratory research use only; not for human or veterinary use.

Conceived to switch on the genetic program of endurance exercise without the exercise itself, SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small-molecule agonist of the estrogen-related receptors (ERRs) and a leading research tool in the study of metabolic and mitochondrial biology. Developed at Saint Louis University, this small molecule — not a peptide — activates all three ERR isoforms (ERRα, ERRβ and ERRγ) with preferential potency at ERRα, and has become a defining example of the so-called "exercise mimetic" class.

A chemical shortcut to the exercise transcriptome. Physical training reshapes muscle and metabolism in large part by engaging the ERR–PGC-1α axis, a transcriptional network that governs mitochondrial biogenesis and fatty-acid oxidation. SLU-PP-332 was designed to engage that same axis directly: its naphthalene-containing scaffold binds within the ERRα ligand pocket and drives the receptor's transcriptional activity, inducing a gene-expression signature that overlaps with the adaptive response to aerobic exercise. This direct-activation strategy is what makes the molecule a uniquely tractable probe of energy metabolism in the laboratory.

What the research explores. Studies in cellular and animal models have characterised several arms of ERR biology:

  • Aerobic exercise response — research demonstrates an ERRα-dependent acute aerobic-exercise gene program and enhanced exercise capacity in rodent models (Billon et al., 2023).
  • Metabolic syndrome — synthetic ERR agonism is reported to alleviate features of metabolic syndrome (Billon et al., 2024).
  • Cardiac and renal energetics — pan-ERR agonists are studied for effects on cardiac fatty-acid metabolism and on mitochondrial function in the aging kidney (Xu et al., 2024; Wang et al., 2023).
  • Muscle atrophy — pilot work targets ERRs to counteract age- and inactivity-related muscle atrophy (Bonanni et al., 2025).

These findings come from in vitro and animal studies in controlled research settings; they describe the molecule's pharmacology and are not evidence of benefit for any non-investigational use. Full citations are listed under the Scientific References tab.

FAQ

SLU-PP-332 is a synthetic small-molecule agonist of the estrogen-related receptors (ERRs), used as a research tool in metabolic and exercise-biology studies. It is a small molecule, not a peptide. It is supplied strictly for laboratory research use only (in vitro) and is not a medicine, food or supplement, and not for human or veterinary use, administration or consumption.

SLU-PP-332 is a small molecule (molecular formula C₁₈H₁₄N₂O₂, MW ~290.3, CAS 303760-60-3), not a peptide. It has no amino-acid sequence and acts as an ERR agonist. Although it is listed under the vials catalog, it is chemically a small-molecule research compound supplied for laboratory research use only (in vitro), not for human or veterinary use.

Both are small-molecule metabolic research tools but act on different targets: SLU-PP-332 is an agonist of the estrogen-related receptors (ERRs), while AICAR is an activator of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). They also differ in solubility — SLU-PP-332 in DMSO, AICAR in water. Both are supplied strictly for laboratory research use only (in vitro), not for human or veterinary use.

These three small molecules hit different targets: SLU-PP-332 is an ERR agonist, AICAR is an AMPK activator, and 5-Amino-1MQ is an NNMT inhibitor. They span three distinct mechanisms within metabolic research, so selection depends on the pathway under study. All three are supplied strictly for laboratory research use only (in vitro) and are not for human or veterinary use, administration or consumption.

SLU-PP-332 acts as an agonist of the estrogen-related receptors (ERRs), a transcription-factor pathway, whereas AICAR activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a cellular energy-sensing enzyme. They engage metabolic regulation through different mechanisms, making them complementary research tools. Both are small molecules supplied strictly for laboratory research use only (in vitro), not for human or veterinary use.

Their chemistry differs: SLU-PP-332 is listed as soluble in DMSO, the appropriate solvent for its structure, while AICAR is water-soluble. This affects how each is prepared as a laboratory stock. The datasheet solvent should always guide preparation. Both are supplied strictly for laboratory research use only (in vitro), and any preparation data is for analytical laboratory use, not human or animal use.

The ≥99% HPLC figure reflects third-party purity testing for this small molecule, and the reference count simply indicates it is a newer, more specialised research tool than long-studied peptides — not a lower-quality material. Each batch still ships with a Certificate of Analysis. For structural confirmation details (e.g. NMR/HRMS), contact info@condorresearch.com. Supplied for laboratory research use only.

Each batch is tested by an independent third-party laboratory with purity verified at ≥99% by HPLC and a Certificate of Analysis issued per lot. For small-molecule structural confirmation (such as NMR/HRMS) and solvent-quality specifics, contact info@condorresearch.com to confirm the documentation available for a given batch. SLU-PP-332 is supplied strictly for laboratory research use only (in vitro).

SLU-PP-332 is listed as soluble in DMSO, so a DMSO stock is prepared rather than an aqueous one; the vial contains 5 mg. DMSO stocks are typically stored protected from light and may be frozen, noting DMSO freezes near 18-19°C. Any preparation data is for analytical laboratory use only, not for human or animal use. For specifics, contact info@condorresearch.com.

Store the unopened vial at -20°C, protected from light (24-month shelf life). A prepared DMSO stock should be kept protected from light and may be frozen, with DMSO's ~18-19°C freezing point in mind. All storage and preparation guidance is for analytical laboratory use only, never for human or veterinary use. For batch-specific stability, contact info@condorresearch.com.
