Overview

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide and melanocortin receptor agonist (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R) derived from the Melanotan II scaffold, studied in models of melanocortin signalling and central nervous system pathways. CAS 189691-06-3; sequence cyclo-[Nle⁴, Asp⁵, D-Phe⁷]α-MSH(4–10); molecular formula C₅₀H₆₈N₁₄O₁₀; molecular weight 1025.2 g/mol; supplied lyophilised at ≥99% purity by HPLC. For laboratory research use only; not for human or veterinary use.

Born from the same molecular family as the skin-tanning peptides, PT-141 — also known as Bremelanotide — is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide and a metabolite-derived analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Rather than acting on peripheral vasculature, it works centrally as a melanocortin-receptor agonist, which has made it a distinctive probe in neuroendocrine and behavioural research.

An unexpected turn in melanocortin chemistry. PT-141 emerged from work on the melanocortin system originally pursued for pigmentation. Investigators recognised that the cyclic core engages melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system, opening a line of study into MC4R-mediated signalling pathways distinct from the peripheral effects of related peptides (Hedlund et al., 2004).

What the research explores. The peptide has anchored investigation across neurobiology and oncology models:

  • Melanocortin neurobiology — studied for its central mechanism of action on melanocortin pathways (Pfaus et al., 2022).
  • Regulatory & pharmacological characterisation — extensively reviewed as a first-in-class melanocortin-receptor agonist (Dhillon et al., 2019; Mayer et al., 2020).
  • Outcome appraisal — its measured effects have been critically evaluated in the research literature (Edinoff et al., 2022; Cipriani et al., 2023).
  • Oncology models — examined for melanocortin-receptor-mediated effects on glioblastoma cells in vitro (Suzuki et al., 2024).

These findings derive from clinical, animal, and in vitro research and are presented strictly in that investigational context, with no claim of human benefit. Full citations are listed under the Scientific References tab.

FAQ

PT-141 and Bremelanotide are two names for the same compound: a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide and a metabolite-derived analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), part of the melanocortin family. "PT-141" is the research-code name and "Bremelanotide" the assigned drug name. Condor Research supplies it as a 10 mg vial, ≥99% HPLC, strictly for in-vitro research.

Both are cyclic melanocortin heptapeptides derived from α-MSH, but they differ at the C-terminus: PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is the acid (-OH) form, while Melanotan II is the amide (-NH2) form. PT-141 is in fact a metabolite of Melanotan II. This structural difference shifts their melanocortin-receptor research profiles. Both are Research Use Only peptides.

The two share the same cyclic Nle-Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys core but terminate differently: PT-141 (Bremelanotide) ends in a free acid (-OH), whereas Melanotan II ends in an amide (-NH2). PT-141 corresponds to a metabolite of Melanotan II, and the C-terminal change distinguishes their receptor-interaction profiles in research. Both are in-vitro reference compounds.

Both are α-MSH-derived melanocortin peptides but structurally distinct: Melanotan I (Afamelanotide) is a linear 13-residue analogue, whereas PT-141 is a cyclic heptapeptide and a metabolite-derived analogue. Their melanocortin-receptor selectivity differs, so selection depends on your in-vitro model. Condor Research supplies both as Research Use Only materials and provides no use protocols.

Both trace back to α-MSH but represent different parts and research roles. PT-141 is a cyclic heptapeptide analogue studied at melanocortin receptors. KPV is the short C-terminal tripeptide (Lys-Pro-Val) fragment of α-MSH, studied chiefly for anti-inflammatory activity. So they share an origin but address different research areas. Both are sold strictly for in-vitro use.

Bremelanotide exists as a recognized melanocortin compound, but Condor Research does not sell it as a medicine. Here it is supplied strictly as a Research Use Only (in vitro) reference material: not a medicine, supplement or medical device, and not for human or veterinary administration. Sales are limited to professionals and institutions aged 18+.

Condor Research ships from the EU across Europe via Packeta, DPD and DHL Express, with tracking. Every order is screened against sanctions and export controls before dispatch, and we do not ship to sanctioned territories. Country eligibility can vary, so for confirmation on your destination contact info@condorresearch.com. The customer is responsible for import legality.

The outer packaging is plain and neutral, without product branding. The customs declaration, however, is always truthful — the contents are described accurately as Research Use Only material with the correct classification and real declared value. Condor Research never mislabels or undervalues a shipment, including on customer request. Questions: info@condorresearch.com.

PT-141 is a lyophilized peptide, which is stable for the short duration of typical transit; the strict -20°C requirement applies to long-term storage of the sealed vial, not to the few days in transit. On arrival, store at -20°C, protected from light (24-month shelf life). For destination-specific questions, contact info@condorresearch.com.

Each lot is tested by an independent third-party laboratory, with identity and purity confirmed by HPLC and mass spec, and ships with a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis certifying ≥99% purity. The listed sequence and molecular weight (1025.2) correspond to the acid-form PT-141 (Bremelanotide). To request the current lot COA, email info@condorresearch.com.

PT-141 is a water-soluble lyophilized powder, dissolved in a compatible aqueous diluent for in-vitro preparation, with volume chosen to reach the target analytical concentration from the 10 mg vial. Store the sealed vial at -20°C, protected from light. This is analytical preparation only; Condor Research provides no human or veterinary dosing or administration guidance.
